Ansys

Ansys provides designers and developers in a wide range of industries with the possibility to test their designs for strength with the most varied materials. By means of this tool, real problems can be analysed, the costs of development can be reduced, and the reliability of products can be enhanced. For instance, Ansys can be used to test the strength of passenger compartments in order to increase the safety of vehicles.

For this purpose, Ansys offers a complete set of element types, material models, and equation solvers. In addition, other models for coupled physical tests in the field of acoustics, piezoelectrics, and thermal structures are available.

Fluent

Ansys Fluent is a high-performance and flexibly usable package for analysing flows of all kinds.

Ansys-Fluent is used in the development of a large number of products, such as: industrial combustion chambers, fuel cells, engine-independent heaters, wings of aeroplanes, spoilers in racing, etc.

Based on the finite volume method, Ansys-Fluent offers a variety of physical models, allowing a broad range of industrial applications. By means of the “Dynamic and Moving Mesh” method, it is possible to analyse flows in moving grids.

In addition to laminar and turbulent flows, acoustic behaviour, chemical reactions, heat transfer, and phase transitions can be modelled.

Ansys CFX

ANSYS CFX is a high-performance and user-friendly software package for the calculation of three-dimensional viscous flows.

Ansys CFX is used, for example, for the investigation of flows of liquids and gases in the development of hulls, gas turbines, stirring devices, pumps, and ventilators.

ANSYS CFX is based on mathematical procedures in combination with software for pre- and postprocessing of the results. The modularly designed software permits the utilisation of structured and unstructured computational grids and distinguishes itself by exact physical models, a robust and very fast solution procedure, and efficient parallel processing.

PAM-CRASH

PAM-CRASH is suitable for industrial users in the fields of vehicle manufacturing, aviation engineering, electronics, and a wide range of other devices.

PAM-CRASH is a program which can simulate crash situations, for instance in vehicle manufacturing, by means of numerous material laws and contact algorithms in order to enhance the safety of passenger compartments. In this manner, the number of necessary real crash tests is significantly reduced.

The software helps to considerably reduce manufacturing costs and manufacturing times in comparison with conventional development and test procedures. With a view to the constant demands for weight reduction, PAM-CRASH makes it possible to model new materials, alloys, plastics, or combinations.

With the design of safety systems, the finite point method of PAM-CRASH offers the possibility to investigate the effect of gaseous flows, such as the inflation of airbags.

Pam-Stamp^TM

Pam-StampTM was developed to analyse the processes during sheet stamping and forming.

Pam-StampTM enables the simulation of the complete stamping process of car body components and prediction the final shape of the component. At the same time, Pam-StampTM makes it possible to reduce the manufacturing costs by prediction and knowledge of stamping problems.

Star-CD

STAR-CD serves to simulate flows.

STAR-CD is used e. g. in the development of combustion engines in order to understand the processes in the combustion chamber. Other fields of application are: simulations for cooling the engine compartment, simulation of air conditioning in the passenger compartment, simulation of flow around hulls in the water.

For this purpose, mathematical models for simulating a wide range of heat-dependent phenomena with steady and transient, laminar and turbulent, incompressible and compressible flows are available. So for instance, problems with flows with turbulence, heat transfer, radiation, chemical reaction, and multiphase transitions can be analysed by means of STAR-CD.

LS-Dyna

LS-DYNA3D is used for crash, impact, and passenger simulation and to calculate forming processes. Static processes, flows, temperature fields, combinations of rigid and elastic bodies and material failures can also be calculated.

LS-DYNA3D is used for instance by car manufacturers to calculate vehicle crashes. In addition to an automatic contact algorithm, which relieves the user from searching for possible contact surface pairs, there are technological models for welding points and welding seams describing the cracking of welding joints. Other fields of application of LS-Dyna are:

Pendulum impact tests, stone impact, drop tests, calculation of crash effects on a dummy, design of passenger restraint systems, etc.

ABAQUS

ABAQUS is a program with many uses for testing the strength of structural elements.

ABAQUS/Standard permits the numerical solution of linear and non-linear problems in the field of engineering science, such as handling static and dynamic stress problems, heat transfer, and thermal stress, fracture mechanics, acoustic and piezoelectric analyses.

ABAQUS/Explicit solves short-term dynamic processes or problems with large deformations.

Abaqus thereby covers both the areas of implicit analyses (Abaqus/Standard) and explicit analyses (Abaqus/Explicit), allowing an integrated calculation of different production stages within a development cycle.

The following tests serve as examples:
Buckling of the transverse control arm of a vehicle upon impact on a kerb,
frequency spectrum of an engine in hot condition

MATLAB

MATLAB is a highly developed language for technical computations and an interactive environment for algorithm development, visualisation and analysis of data, and for numerical calculations.

MATLAB is suitable for a variety of applications such as signal and image processing, communication systems, control prototyping, tests and measurements, finance modelling and analysis, and for computationally intensive biological problems. Supplementing tool boxes (collections of special MATLAB functions which are available separately) upgrade the MATLAB environment by adding capabilities for solving particular classes of problems in these fields of application.

In addition, MATLAB offers a whole range of possibilities for documenting or sharing the work with others. MATLAB code can for instance be integrated into other programming languages and applications or directly be passed on to third parties in the form of MATLAB algorithms and applications.

The MATLAB development environment makes it possible to design algorithms, interactively analyse data, display data files, and manage projects.

Eclipse

ECLIPSE is a software tool for the simulation of reservoir liquid flows. This tool helps with the preparation of decisions with regard to raw material deposits.

The decisions to be prepared range from the planning of production facilities (underground and above-ground) to the diagnosis of problems with conveyance.

ECLIPSE tools for reservoir simulation help engineers to efficiently predict and handle subterranean flows by providing a better overview and a more precise model.

ECLIPSE simulation helps to answer the economically important questions of reservoir management.
How certain are the predictions with regard to capacity?
How can uncertainties be reduced?
How many boreholes are required?
What method is to be used for conveying?
Which strategy is to be used for development?

Radioss

With Radioss, very large models can be created, edited, and finally combined in a comprehensive vehicle simulation in an environment ranging from the creation of a model to crash simulation.

RADIOSS, an explicit and implicit finite element analysis program, makes it possible to simulate phenomena of mechanics, structure, fluid and fluid structure interaction under static and dynamic conditions, taking non-linear material behaviour into account. RADIOSS can also be used for simulating problems in fields as varied as passive safety, deep drawing, forming, aeroacoustics, or wave propagation in structures.

RADIOSS offers solutions for complex physical problems, from drop tests for consumer goods to vehicle crash analyses, from ballistic investigations to explosion simulations.

SPW

The SPW system comprises all functions used in seismic investigations for oil exploration.

Mathematica

Mathematica constitutes one of the most frequently used mathematical-scientific program packages. Among other things, it contains:
a computer algebra system for symbolic processing of equations
a numeric software for numerically solving or evaluating equations
a visualisation tool to display graphs

In addition to the basic arithmetical operations, derivative and integral calculation, solution of equation systems, matrix manipulation and numerical calculations of any accuracy (no restriction to machine precision), a large number of special functions, for instance from the field of combinatorial analysis, are implemented.

Mathematica offers the user an almost infinite variety of mathematical functions for solving problems from engineering, financial and insurance mathematics, mathematics, statistics, physics, and “chemical computing” and, of course, from all natural sciences.

Mathematica is used in science and in the study of scientific or economic subjects, respectively. It also addresses the professional user in industry and economics. For instance, banks are using Mathematica to simulate the development of share prices, assess derivatives, estimate and transform risks, etc.

FEKO

FEKO serves to calculate electromagnetic fields in 3D structures based on the combination of different methods (MoM, FEM, PO, UTD, MLFMM). FEKO is used to test aerials and their placement on electric bodies.

FEKO is used, for instance, for the following types of problem: development of aerials, placement of aerials, examinations regarding electromagnetic compatibility, investigations regarding mutual influencing in cable harnesses.

In addition to the calculation of near and far fields in connection with dielectric bodies, it is also possible to calculate the specific absorption rates (SAR values) induced in parts of human bodies (head/hand) by radio sets.

MAGMASOFT

MAGMASOFT® is a simulation tool for economical and quality-responsive production of castings.

MAGMASOFT® stands for the calculation of mold filling, solidification and cooling-off, mechanical properties, thermal stresses and distortion of castings. Within the scope of the development of castings, casting simulation serves to examine the design concepts for castability, the structures and properties to be expected.

MAGMASOFT® supports the user with selecting the optimal gating and risering technique, setting the mechanical properties, and improving the mold design, and it reduces the costs of subsequent machining.
